Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
Ideal candidates should have a degree in Biochemistry or Biology. The candidate will work with a team of researchers to study pancreatic islet beta cells; and/or to develop targeted drug delivery to islet beta cells for preventing and treating diabetes (both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes). Responsibilities include designing and performing experiments, maintaining detailed laboratory records, analyzing and interpreting data, and contributing to research presentations and publications. Daily tasks may include mammalian cell culture; biochemical assays (Western Blot, ELISA, qPCR); Immunofluorescence and fluorescence imaging. Experience with animal research such as mouse handling and breeding is a plus but not required.
