Job Description

The Holmes Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Wesleyan University seeks a full-time Research Technician.

Reporting to the Professor of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, the Research Technician will join an NIH-funded research group dedicated to examining fundamental properties of chromatin structure using the budding yeast model system.

Responsibilities include:

  • Execute research projects using standard techniques in molecular genetics (PCR, DNA extractions, yeast and bacterial transformations, gel electrophoresis, western blots)
  • Maintain a detailed lab notebook documenting all experimental work
  • Lab management, including inventory and ordering
  • Supervision of undergraduate work-study students
  • Other duties as assigned

Funding for this position has been approved for 2 years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

B.S. or B.A. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry or a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Experience conducting wet-bench research in molecular biology or molecular genetics.

Demonstrate strong organization and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently.

Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and ability to build effective collaborative relationships.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in bioinformatic analysis or biochemistry.
