The laboratory of Jin Wangin the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University is seeking a Research Technician to support ongoing research in wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies.

The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research activities, assist with laboratory operations, support experimental studies, and help advance projects in semiconductor materials and devices.

The target hiring range for this job profile is $19.28 - $25.19/hr. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.

Essential Duties

Supports circuit‑topology investigations and prototype development for T‑Breaker, circuit with high voltage optical-controlled switches, and multi‑terminal HVDC power converters by assisting with schematic exploration, component selection, and bench‑level hardware assembly; contributes to building and testing early‑stage prototypes, including sub‑modules, switching networks, and protection interfaces; helps prepare circuit diagrams, measurement traces, and prototype documentation for comparison with design targets and for use in collaborative research discussions.

Assists in developing and evaluating control and protection strategies for T‑Breaker, circuit with high voltage optical-controlled switches, and multi‑terminal HVDC power converters by supporting simulation studies, parameter sweeps, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop test configurations; helps execute validation experiments, collect transient‑response data, and analyze system behavior under fault and recovery scenarios; contributes to preparing plots, stability summaries, and protection‑sequence documentation for team reviews and ongoing research activities.

Provides support for technical reports, presentations, and publications by organizing experimental results, generating figures and converter schematics, and drafting descriptive sections under the guidance of lead researchers; assists with formatting manuscripts, preparing conference slides, and assembling supplementary materials; contributes to ensuring clarity, consistency, and completeness across internal documentation and external dissemination efforts.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with associate’s degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Experience/knowledge of advanced semiconductor device physics and engineering at the graduate level.
