University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department: Emergency Medicine Job Title: Research Services Clinical Sciences Senior ManagerPosition #: 00853530 – Requisition #: 41206 Job Summary: The Senior Manager (PM) for the Airway, Trauma, Lung injury, and Sepsis (ATLAS) Research Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine will play a crucial role in leading multiple professional-level teams and hold elevated operational responsibility within a department or functional area. Senior Managers directly oversee multiple teams and professional staff leaders and must supervise at least one (1) Manager and one (1) Program Manager. Senior Managers oversee programmatic execution, resource planning, and operational performance. They ensure cross-team alignment, continuity of operations and adherence to policies, standards and regulatory requirements. Senior Managers manage workflow planning, staffing, performance management, and operational decision-making across their assigned teams. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership and Supervision (30%)Hire, train, mentor, and supervise research staff and coordinators.Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to professional staff.Establish performance expectations, conduct performance evaluations, support professional development, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Research Operations Management (15%)Oversee daily operations of ATLAS research programs. Project Management (10%)Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resources. Regulatory Compliance (15%)Ensure compliance with FDA, IRB, and institutional requirements. Quality and Process Improvement (5%)Develop and maintain efficient research processes. Grant and Proposal Support (10%)Work closely with investigators to assist with grant writing, budgets, and proposal development. Research Study Start-Up and Closeout (5%)Support study activation, implementation, and closeout activities. Subcontract and Vendor Oversight (5%)Manage vendors, subcontracts, and related deliverables. Stakeholder Engagement (5%)Collaborate with investigators, sponsors, and partners. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 6-8 years of professional experience in clinical research (pre-clinical/wet lab experience does not apply). Substitution: An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications: 8+ years of clinical trials experience5+ years of team leadership and supervisionDemonstrated experience supervising and developing professional staff, including managing performance, workload prioritization, and team operations.Extensive experience supporting or overseeing clinical trials involving human subjects, including multi-site and federally regulated studies.Knowledge of grants and contracts administration, including pre-award and post-award processes for sponsored research.Experience managing complex subawards, vendor relationships, research agreements, and associated financial oversight.Experience leading federally funded and industry-sponsored research programs within an academic medical center, research institution, or Contract Research Organization (CRO).Experience developing and implementing research operations, regulatory compliance, and process improvement initiatives across multiple projects or programs.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with principal investigators, institutional leadership, sponsors, regulatory agencies, and external partners. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to provide leadership, supervision, and professional development for research and administrative staff.Ability to manage complex research programs and prioritize competing operational, financial, and regulatory requirements.Knowledge of clinical research operations, including human subjects research, regulatory compliance, and study management.Knowledge of sponsored research administration, including grants, contracts, budgeting, and financial oversight.Ability to develop and implement efficient business processes, operational improvements, and compliance initiatives.Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, sponsors, regulatory agencies, institutional partners, and external stakeholders.Ability to analyze complex problems, exercise sound judgment, and make strategic decisions in a fast-paced research environment.
