A position is available in the New York University Department of Anthropology for a longitudinal study of the rhesus macaques of Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico, as part of a new U19 award from the National Institute on Aging. The position is initially for one year, potentially renewable for up to five years.
Working with Prof. James Higham, a Research Scientist will coordinate the analysis of physiological biomarkers from blood, urine, and feces, and will integrate these measures with data from other aging domains (e.g. omics, morphological, social, perception, organ system) for analysis and publication. The Research Scientist will also be responsible for helping the PI ensure that all grant deliverables and milestones are being met and will help to ensure compliance across the different NYU components of the project. The project is part of a large, multi-institutional consortium, and will require working and coordinating with a large (>100 individuals) group of researchers. The position is available immediately, but later start dates are potentially negotiable. The position is for one year, renewable for up to five years. Note that this position has an elevated starting salary reflecting an increased responsibility for tracking and delivering project milestones.
This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $78,000-82,000 per year. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
A PhD in zoology, animal biology, biological anthropology, or a related field. Evidence of active outputs, such as peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, with some success in grant applications also preferred. The PDA may be required to make visits to Puerto Rico for oversight of components of data collection.
Expected experience: 5 years post PhD; exceptions can be made for outstanding individuals who possess a minimum of 2 years post PhD with specialized skills.
