Research Scientist-Mass Spec Sample prep

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Chemical Biology Department. The successful candidate will play a role in supporting Mass Spectrometry-based proteomics workflows for target discovery, identification and validation. You will collaborate closely with proteomics scientists and colleagues in Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Disease Area Biology functions to identify and quantify proteins from biologically relevant tissues, organs, and cells. • Job Responsibilities
  Automated Liquid Handling for Proteomics Sample Preparation
  • Operate Agilent and Hamilton liquid handling systems for proteomics workflows (e.g., plate-based digestion, desalting, peptide cleanup).
  • Execute end-to-end sample prep for diverse matrices (cells, tissues/FFPE, plasma/serum), including lysis, denaturation, reduction/alkylation, enzymatic digestion (trypsin, Lys-C), and peptide desalting (e.g., SPE, StageTips).
  • Implement protein & peptide quantitation methods (e.g., BCA, UV absorbance, Fluorescence)
  • Optimize workflows for specific applications (DIA/DDA, TMT labeling, streptavidin pulldown, or phosphopeptide enrichment) as needed.

• Critical Skills:

• Operate Agilent and Hamilton liquid handling systems for proteomics workflows Strong record-keeping and troubleshooting skills; familiarity with electronic lab notebooks.
• Familiar with Proteomic sample preparation.

Basic Qualifications:

• B.S. degree in life sciences with >= 2 years of full-time work experience, or M.S. degree with 0 – 2 years full-time working experience.
• Proficient in proteomics assay techniques and laboratory robotics.
• An ideal candidate should be flexible to accommodate rapidly changing priorities and deadlines, able to communicate effectively and professionally in a fast paced, multidisciplinary team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Tissue Processing and FFPE handling for imaging applications
  • Perform cryostat and microtome sectioning of fresh-frozen and FFPE tissues to specified thicknesses and orientation.
  • Optimize embedding on PEN/PET membrane, trimming, and section collection for downstream assays.
  • Execute standard deparaffinization, rehydration, antigen retrieval, and blocking procedures.
  • Prepare high-quality sections for immunofluorescence, IHC, and other histological methods.

Working Environment:

• Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory.
• Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time
• The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite. Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in order to perform the essential service functions of this position.
• Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations. Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing and labeling hazardous waste.
• Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, hazardous chemicals.

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $80,000 to $90,000. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
