Research Scientist II; Analytical Development (Particle Engineering) is an integral team, contributing to our success by being part of the most trusted provider of drug discovery, development and manufacturing services for pharmaceutical and biotech innovators. The main activities of the Research Scientist II will be to perform and support cGMP analyses for particle characterization, including but not limited to particle size by laser light scattering, XRPD, BET surface area, and microscopy.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential job duties

  1. Provide proficient and timely support for analytical techniques including laser diffraction particle size, XRPD, BET surface area analyses and microscopy.
  2. Perform particle size method development and validation
  3. Provide technical support to assigned projects using robust scientific practices, which comply with standard operating procedures and scientific standards
  4. Communicate clearly and accurately with internal and external clients, both verbally and through written data summaries and reports
  5. Meet timelines for delivering on clients' expectations
  6. Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation
  7. Prepare technical documents
  8. Comply with all cGMP, laboratory SOPs, and company policies and procedures
  9. Comply with good housekeeping and safety practices according to our Environmental Health and Safety policies
  10. Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business

Education, experience, certification and licensures Required

· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Material Sciences or a related science field

· Minimum 2 years’ relevant laboratory experience

OR

· Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related science field

· Minimum 1 year relevant laboratory experience

Preferred

· Hands-on experience conducting XRPD or particle size analysis (PSA).

· Experience working in a cGMP environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry

· Experience with developing and validating particle size methods in the pharmaceutical industry.

Other Qualifications

• Must pass a background check

• Must pass a drug screen

• May be required to pass Occupational Health Screening

• May be required to obtain and maintain gowning certification

• May be required to obtain and maintain media qualification

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  1. Familiarity with characterization techniques such as PSA, XRPD, DSC, TGA, 1H NMR, KF, vapor sorption, etc.
  2. Demonstrate flexibility in organizing work and priorities.
  3. Good problem solving and decision-making skills.
  4. Ability to utilize scientific software and learn how to interpret analytical data.
  5. Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects, and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary project teams.
  6. Good written and oral communication skills.
  7. Good problem solving and decision-making skills to identify and solve work related issues.
  8. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and the ability to learn other scientific software, as required.
  9. Good written and oral communication skills.

Pay Range: $67,000

Education, experience, location and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
