Description

Position SummaryThe University of Alabama at Birmingham, Cell, Developmental, & Integrative Biology Department, is in search of a Research Scientist to join their team. General ResponsibilitiesA Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesDesign, conduct, and oversee independent laboratory-based research projects.Develop and optimize experimental protocols and methodologies.Perform molecular, cellular, and biochemical analyses to support research objectives.Conduct studies utilizing mammalian cell culture and animal models.Perform protein and cellular analyses using techniques such as Western blotting, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and related methods.Analyze and interpret complex scientific data and prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations.Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific meetings.Contribute to grant applications, progress reports, and other scientific documents.Train and mentor students, trainees, and research personnel.Assist with laboratory management activities, including equipment oversight, protocol development, inventory management, and regulatory compliance.Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams across the institution.Perform other duties as assigned. Salary Range: $ 70,425 - $ 90,000

Qualifications

QualificationsDoctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. PreferencesPh.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Cancer Biology, Immunology, or a related biomedical science field.Three or more years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.Demonstrated expertise in mammalian cell culture techniques.Experience with animal models and in vivo studies.Experience with extracellular vesicle/exosome isolation and characterization.Experience with molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, plasmid construction, gene expression analysis, and recombinant DNA methodologies.Experience with protein analysis techniques, including Western blotting, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, and immunocytochemistry.Strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.Experience mentoring students and research trainees.Excellent written and oral communication skills.
