
The Center for Urban Science and Progress at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Part Time Research Scholar to work with Prof. Daniel Neill.

CUSP conducts ongoing research programs in a wide range of areas related to urban data science, complex systems, and health applications.
Candidates will be responsible for conducting research related to Prof. Neill’s NIH-funded project on “A precision prevention approach to identifying and addressing behavioral health treatment gaps to reduce the population burden of suicide”. Hiring will be contingent on the availability of funds through this project. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for developing and evaluating approaches to estimate subgroup-level risk, exposure, and treatment effect heterogeneity, and using these estimates to optimize the targeting of public health interventions.
Candidates should have at least a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in computer science as exemplified by a strong record of past research. Python programming skills and knowledge of machine learning are required. Previous experience in causal inference and algorithmic fairness, particularly as applied to mental health applications, are preferred.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $28.00 per hour, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.
Expected start date and period of employment
Expected start date is: September 21st, 2026. This position is expected to be for 10 weeks. Expected work hours are 25 hours per week.
