Human Movement Analysis with Inverse Reinforcement Learning

The NYU Tandon School of Engineering Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and NYU Center for Robotics and Embodied Intelligence are investigating advanced methods for autonomous robots, championing innovations that enhance quality of life and promote the development of just and equitable global societies. They are seeking to hire a part-time research scholar to assist with these ongoing activities in the field of inverse reinforcement learning.This position is for up to 4 months.
The research will be conducted in the Machines in Motion Laboratory, which conducts research in movement planning and control for autonomous robotics, particularly within legged locomotion and manipulation. Its broader research interests lie at the nexus of automatic control, decision-making, and machine learning as applied to physical systems. Furthermore, it is dedicated to examining the societal impact of technology, championing innovations that enhance quality of life and promote the development of just and equitable global societies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities:
SALARY RANGE
In accordance with the NYC Pay Transparency Act, the part time base salary for this role is $34.34 per hour, commensurate with the candidate’s professional experience and qualifications.
EXPECTED START DATE AND PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT
The anticipated start date is October 16, 2026. This appointment is for a duration of up to 6 months with possible extension or up to 1 year, contingent upon the availability of funds. The part-time schedule requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week.
Candidates are expected to hold at least a PhD in Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. They should possess a proven track record in inverse reinforcement learning, including publications in top venues.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States upon hire.
