Here's a Glimpse of the Job

The Research Program Associate I will be responsible for supporting main lab operations, assisting with animal care, reagent preparation and assisting in training of students, and execute experiments to obtain data for grant submissions and papers. Job duties are specific to the research being done and are an integral part of the research project(s).

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Assist in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.

  • Select and apply standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.

  • Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.

  • Evaluate and summarize results.

  • Select and arrange meeting facilities and equipment for meetings and special events associated with research projects.

  • Conduct general lab duties, purchasing, autoclave, and animal maintenance.

  • Maintain an accurate laboratory notebook, write manuscripts, contribute to grant proposal, and present findings.

  • Train new personnel on lab procedures.

  • Assist undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based off of the selected candidate's education and experience.

Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of experience in a research lab or office setting (undergraduate research acceptable).

A well-qualified candidate may also possess:

  • Bachelor’s in biology or related area.

  • Experience with rodent models, cell culture, cryostat and histology.

  • Knowledge of cell culture techniques.

  • Knowledge of rodent husbandry and handling.

  • Cryostat work expertise.

  • Knowledge of rodent brain tissue dissection.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Keyboarding skills.
