Texas A&M University’s Chemistry Department is looking for a Research Program Aide to support research focused on the synthesis, reactivity, and characterization of atypical cations and phosphine gold complexes featuring cationic moieties.
This role will involve laboratory synthesis, investigation of chemical reactivity, and the application of both standard and advanced characterization techniques, including NMR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography. The position will also include computational modeling to help interpret and predict the properties of these complexes.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals with an interest in inorganic and organometallic chemistry. Prior experience in synthetic chemistry, along with a basic understanding of chemical characterization methods, is preferred.
Opportunities to Contribute
Collect, organize, and maintain datasets relevant to computational chemistry and materials science research.
Prepare and isolate atypical cationic species and phosphine gold complexes following established and novel protocols.
Conduct spectroscopic and analytical characterization, including NMR, MS, IR, UV-Vis, and X-ray crystallography.
Assist in computational analyses to model electronic structures, predict properties, and support experimental insights.
Qualifications
High School Diploma
1 year of related experience in computational chemistry, machine learning, or materials science.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
Experience with laboratory synthesis techniques.
Basic knowledge of inorganic or organometallic chemistry.
Familiarity with characterization methods and computational modeling tools.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Competence with laboratory instrumentation and chemical handling.
Knowledge of chemical synthesis and characterization principles.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
