The Research Professional I will support the design, execution, and dissemination of research activities within the laboratory. This position will contribute to experimental research, data collection and analysis, and the operation of laboratory instrumentation in a collaborative research environment. The incumbent will play a key role in supporting proposal development by preparing preliminary data, contributing to technical writing, and coordinating proposal components. Additional responsibilities include assisting with manuscript preparation, maintaining compliance with research protocols, and supporting day-to-day laboratory operations. The position works closely with the principal investigator and research team to advance research objectives and ensure timely completion of projects and deliverables.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory and/or field experiments following established protocols and research plans.
  • Collect, process, and analyze research data using standard analytical and computational methods.
  • Assist in developing and implementing research methodologies under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, procedures, and results.
  • Support preparation of figures, tables, and summaries for reports and publications.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and shared research instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, university policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in managing lab inventory, supplies, and procurement of materials.
  • Train students and users on proper equipment operation and laboratory techniques.
  • Support day-to-day lab operations to ensure efficient and safe research environment.
  • Assist in the preparation and development of grant proposals by compiling preliminary data, supporting figure creation, and contributing to draft technical sections under the guidance of the principal investigator or senior research staff.
  • Support the development of research narratives, literature reviews, and methodology descriptions by gathering and organizing information for funding applications.
  • Coordinate proposal documentation by organizing materials, tracking timelines, and ensuring completeness of submission components in collaboration with the research team.
  • Conduct basic searches for funding opportunities and share relevant information with senior researchers to support alignment with project goals.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations to communicate and disseminate research findings to stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.

  • Degree in Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
