Job Description

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center seeks a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work in the research laboratory.

The Smith lab at Dartmouth Hitchcock, Lebanon, New Hampshire is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated postdoc to study environmental drivers of human gut microbiota community structure. Studies will focus on how shifts in the gut nutrient landscape influence co-aggregation behaviors and competition between Akkermansia and other gut residents, and how these interactions shape the metabolic functions of these communities.

The successful candidate will assume a leadership position within the lab; set the tone for both scientific and scholarly excellence; drive forward complex, innovative and translationally impactful projects; develop and write fellowship applications; and participate in a variety group and departmental seminar and journal club series. In return, you will gain critical experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic group environment, and receive full-time support from a Senior Research Assistant. As such, the training and experience you receive in the lab can be carried forward in either Academic or Industrial research settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of experiments and project activities.
  • Train and supervise project assistants, students and other partners and project staff as required.
  • Monitor grants activities, funding and expenditures budgeted under contracts and purchased services.
  • Oversee data management, reporting and project communication with partners, sponsors & governmental agencies as appropriate.
  • Assist in proposal writing, and participates in development of papers and presentations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • PhD in a related field required
    • All requirements for degree, including dissertation defense, must be completed prior to start date.
    • Must exhibit excellent quantitative skills as well as good English writing and verbal skills
