RMIT Vietnam is seeking a contingent worker for the Research Officer role. While the position is advertised by RMIT Vietnam, the successful candidate will be employed and managed by an external service provider, who will be responsible for the labour contract.

Your role

The Research Officer involves investigating new methods and solutions to improve connectivity, enhance the control performance, and ecological restoration of the hydropower system. Specifically, the research officer

involve the literature review, analytical design, modelling, development of 5G AIoT prototype platform, conducts test, data analysis, prepare reports and contribute to research outcomes.

Reports to: Chief investigator of the awarded VRG 2026 project “Enabling Green Energy Flexibility with 5G AIoT Sensor Networks for Eco-Friendly Hydropower Operations” – Dr Minh Bui

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct targeted literature reviews on topologies of 5G and beyond transceivers of the IoT network and provide concise summaries to the research team.
  • Construct, simulate and evaluate the individual blocks and the whole 5G and beyond transceiver at the circuit level using Cadence virtuoso.
  • Support the post-layout design, tape-out process, testing, data analysis of the key 5G and beyond IC blocks.
  • Support the numerical and experimental study on the online parameter identification and optimal control of the PMSM used in the hydro-power systems.
  • Work closely with the line manager and research team to ensure timely preparation, cleaning, and organization of datasets for analysis.
  • Contribute to the documentation of research outputs, including summaries, reports, and supporting materials for the adoption study.
  • Ensure all research activities comply with approved ethics protocols, data management procedures, and university policies.
  • Provide general research and administrative support as required to facilitate the smooth delivery of the adoption study.
  • Undertake other duties as required by the project lead.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., electronic and computer system, electrical and electronic engineering).
  • More than 2 years of experience in quantitative research methods, including literature review, numerical study, pre-layout and post layout design of the integrated circuits.
  • More than 2 years of experience with Cadence EDA tools for integrated circuit design.
  • More than 2 years of experience with Matlab Simulink, hardware development and testing for the control system.
  • Ability to organise, manage, and prepare research data accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive data responsibly.
  • Good organisational and time management skills to meet project timelines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position and RMIT Values.
