THE OPPORTUNITY

We areseekingan experienced and motivated Research Officer to contribute to the development of next generation protein therapeutics, includingmultispecifics, antibody–drug conjugates, immunotoxins, and peptides. This role is critical for delivering high quality recombinant proteins to support in vitro and in vivo characterisation of therapeutic candidates and target molecules. You will contribute to end to end biologics development, from early concept through to translational studies, within a newly established biologics platform integrated into a leading healthcare and research ecosystem. The successful candidate will collaborate with platform members,crossfunctionalteams, and external partners while mentoring junior scientists.

Salary:Up to$108,000(depending on experience)+ 14% super + salary packaging

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Under the guidance of senior staff, the successful candidate will

Protein Expression, Purification & Analytics

  • Design and generate expression constructs for recombinant protein production.

  • Develop, optimise, and execute protein purification strategies including affinity, ion exchange, HIC, SEC, and multistep workflows.

  • Perform analytical characterisation (SEC-MALS, DLS, DSF, Mass photometry, HPLC/UHPLC, SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, binding assays).

  • Evaluate and troubleshoot protein quality attributes.

  • Support analytical method development and workflow optimisation.

  • Maintainaccuratedocumentation and data integrity in ELNs.

Experimental Planning & Execution

  • Design hypothesis driven experiments for biologics development.

  • Independently execute complex wet lab workflows.

  • Analyse, interpret, and present scientific data.

  • Identifyrisks, troubleshoot challenges, and propose solutions.

Team Leadership, Training & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Train and mentor junior staff.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and CROs.

  • Communicate scientific outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Participate in lab meetings and scientific forums.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with scientific literature and emerging technologies.

  • Drive adoption ofcutting edgepurification/analytical technologies.

  • Contribute to IP, publications, and internal scientific outputs.

  • Support process optimisation and implementation of best practices.

ABOUT YOU

The key skills and experience include:

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Protein Engineering, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, orrelated field.

Technical Expertise:

  • Experience in protein engineering, expression, purification, and characterisation.

  • Strong hands-on experience with FPLC and HPLC/UHPLC.

  • Experience with biophysical and analytical techniques (DSF, DLS, SEC-MALS,analytical SEC, binding analysis).

  • Experience training junior staff and contributing to collaborative teams.

  • Familiarity with molecular biology and biochemistry assays.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
