Job Description

Mater Research are looking for a Research Manager to join the QCEIDAH team! This is a one-year fixed-term role in a part-time capacity at 0.6FTE. It will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Queensland Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability and Autism Health (QCEIDAH) aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people with intellectual and developmental disability across the life span through clinical practice, research, and education.

QCEIDAH provides a specialist outpatient service located at Mater Hospital South Brisbane for patients with diagnosed or suspected Intellectual Disability and/or Autism and complex support needs that are referred by their GP, specialists or Queensland Mental Health Service for additional health assessment and advice. The outpatient clinic is also a teaching clinic, attended by students, trainees and qualified staff who want to improve their knowledge and skills in this area.

QCEIDAH undertakes research to improve the health and wellbeing of people with intellectual disability and autistic people using inclusive research principles of co-design in all research activities. We have a strong track record in this area with the research agenda spanning health services and clinical research. Our research includes clinical trials and projects that will require staff to be involved in data collection and analysis.

Salary range: $54.76 - $61.49 (MRI Admin L8) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the delivery of QCEIDAH’s research strategy, priorities and research program.
  • Coordinate a portfolio of research projects, ensuring milestones, timelines, budgets and deliverables are achieved.
  • Support research ethics, governance, risk management, data management and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate grant applications, funding submissions and identify new research and collaboration opportunities.
  • Build strong partnerships with researchers, universities, health services, government, community organisations and people with lived experience.
  • Facilitate research collaborations, student placements and strategic partnerships.
  • Support the translation of research findings into policy, practice, education and service improvement.
  • Contribute to research frameworks, methodologies, governance and continuous quality improvement. Ensure research activities meet relevant ethical, regulatory, organisational and NHMRC requirements.
  • Represent QCEIDAH across relevant research networks, advisory groups and stakeholder forums.
  • Champion Mater’s values, workplace safety and the delivery of high-quality, inclusive research.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification or PhD in a relevant discipline such as health, public health, psychology, disability, allied health, social sciences or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex research programs or projects.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and contributing to research grant development.
  • Strong understanding of research governance, ethics and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience developing and maintaining strategic research partnerships.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including preparation of grant applications, reports and publications.
  • Understanding of intellectual and developmental disability health and the Australian health system.
  • Understanding of the broad policy context that impacts the health and well-being of people with intellectual and developmental disability.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills necessary for negotiating and liaising effectively with a diverse range of staff, consumers, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse and solve problems to provide accurate and appropriate outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality written material in different styles and formats appropriate to the audience.
  • Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.

Experience

  • Previous research management experience.
  • A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.
  • Experience supporting, managing and developing a team of staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and also to work collaboratively with both junior and senior colleagues.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated capacity to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a multidisciplinary team and with other research groups.
  • Ability to collaborate inclusively with people with intellectual and developmental disability to produce high quality outputs.
  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work demands, meet deadlines and balance competing tasks.
