- Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.
Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.

Essential Functions
-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
-Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
-Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Experience
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.

The Research Fellow will support and conduct clinical research activities within a surgical department or surgical subspecialty program. The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, clinical teams, and research staff to design, implement, and manage research studies aimed at improving surgical outcomes, patient care, and evidence-based practice. This role provides opportunities for scholarly development, academic publication, data analysis, and participation in multidisciplinary clinical research initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the planning, execution, and coordination of prospective and retrospective clinical research studies in a surgical setting.
  • Identify, recruit, and consent eligible patients according to approved study protocols and institutional guidelines.
  • Collect, manage, and maintain accurate clinical and research data from electronic medical records, patient interviews, surgical databases, and case report forms.
  • Perform data cleaning, statistical analysis, and interpretation of clinical research findings.
  • Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, posters, presentations, book chapters, and grant-related materials for scientific meetings and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Coordinate Institutional Review Board (IRB)/Ethics Committee submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, and regulatory documentation.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, residents, fellows, statisticians, and multidisciplinary research teams to advance ongoing projects.
  • Participate in literature reviews, protocol development, and research methodology discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, ethical, and regulatory requirements governing human subjects research.
  • Attend research meetings, surgical conferences, journal clubs, and departmental academic activities.
  • Schedule and coordinate research meetings, team discussions, and project updates as needed with surgeons, research staff, collaborators, and study personnel.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Some relevant research project work 0-1 year preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Job will require performance of tasks that involve attending in the operating room and in the outpatient clinics ; understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; familiarity with MS Windows and computer use for data access and reporting; reporting hours worked via the semi-automatic time keeping system.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires some pushing, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
