Job Description

Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Research Lab Manager for the Biobank. The Research Lab Manager - Biobank is responsible for working with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by the Laboratory Director, Research Scientist and or Program Administrator. Independently oversees and performs laboratory experiments and procedures in support of biorepository lab goals (e.g., biorepository, cell/tissue culture, clinical trial processing, etc.). Must have understanding and proficiency with biobanking and human specimen collection, processing and storage. Implement, establish and maintain robust quality control, laboratory policies and SOP’s including those pertaining to regulatory agencies such as CAP. Supervises lab personnel and serves as the primary contact for the laboratory. Manages the training lab personnel in applicable regulations and lab techniques. Ensures safety requirements are met and serves as the emergency contact for the laboratory. Ensures viability of materials, reagents, and specimens. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes/errors, and suggests modifications. Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data as needed. Biobank Manager contributes to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in the biorepository lab setting. Builds and fosters professional relationships including other departments enterprise wide.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years significant laboratory experience required; Master of Science Degree can substitute/count for 2 years of experience (i.e. 3 years of significant laboratory experience required if hold a Master of Science Degree)
  • Bachelor of Science degree required; Master of Science degree preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Manages the Biobank staff and works with the Director of BMAP and Research Program Administrator to develop and manage Biobank budget.

  2. Responsible for the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and ensures policies, SOP’s, and protocols are harmonized with relevant rules, regulations, quality standards and good clinical practices.

  3. Completes monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual QA/QC procedures. Collaborates with all departments to ensure research complies with organizational guidelines and regulatory standards.

  4. Oversee and maintains the laboratory environment, reagents, equipment, and function at a level consistent with CAP guidelines.

  5. Coordinates sample procurement according to the protocol, including processing frozen samples, specimens for cell culture, and specimens for processing and shipping as required for the study.

  6. Participates in the planning of clinical research projects with investigators and research coordinators.

  7. Provides specimen processing services for clinical research studies as per protocols and processes samples.

  8. Responsible for coordinating the flow of samples from other sites (Orlando, Jacksonville and Pensacola).

  9. Maintains the Laboratory Information Management System (BSI) for tracking all specimens.

  10. Assists laboratory management to maintain the lab websites and social media presence, including regular updates and enhancements and assures that the labs technology remains current, evaluating programs and platforms and monitoring appropriateness and use.
