
The school of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is looking for a motivated research fellow holding a PhD degree specializing in maritime studies, transportation/logistics, operations research, computer science, or a related field. The appointment is typically for one year and may be extended, subjected to performance and availability of research funding.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research on shipping and port operational optimization, maritime decarbonization, data analytics, and the development and application of novel methodologies (including LLM-based prediction and optimization)
Coordinate the preparation of project reports and deliverables
Publish research findings in top peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings
Collaborate with other researchers on project discussions and joint deliverables
Support the preparation of research proposals and grant applications
Job Requirements:
A PhD degree in transport engineering, maritime transport and management, computer science, operations research, or a related field from a recognised university
Strong expertise in applying large language models (LLMs) and AI techniques to prediction and optimization problems; familiarity with optimization algorithms is highly desirable
Excellent programming skills in Python, C++, Java, Julia, or other relevant languages
Knowledge of maritime decarbonization and alternative fuels is a plus
A good record of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals in maritime transport, logistics management, machine learning, deep learning, or optimization
P roficient in both written and spoken communication
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and deliver solutions under tight timelines
Experience in proposal writing and funding application
