Enhance Students' Interdisciplinary Learning through Large Language Model-Empowered Learning Analytics
Project Introduction:
We are looking for a Research Fellow with a strong foundation in AI for education, Human-AI collaboration, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to contribute to two ongoing projects:
The Impacts of Generative AI on Creativity, Decision-Making Performance, and Agency: Human–AI Collaboration in Problem-Solving and Artefact Design Enhance Students' Interdisciplinary Learning through Large Language Model-Empowered Learning Analytics
The ideal candidate will be deeply involved in refining LLMs to support students’ computational thinking skills and interdisciplinary learning competencies, handling and coordinating large-scale data collection, analysing data around human-AI collaboration, students’ decision-making, creativity, agency, learning performance, and publish the results in high-impact journals and present at international conferences. The candidate will collaborate closely with a team of researchers including learning scientists, AI experts and instructors. Candidates with the potential to design and implement experiments related to these topics independently will be preferred.
Requirements:
- PhD degree in learning sciences, educational technology, human-computer interaction (HCI), information technology, AI or relevant fields
- Prior experience and proficiency in educational data mining and AI for education, with the ability to handle a large amount of data
- Prior experience working with LLMs, including programming, fine-tuning, evaluating and benchmarking
- Demonstrate skills in quantitative research methods, statistical analysis, and computational techniques; proficiency in programming languages such as Python, statistical software such as R, and basic AI/ML development
- Qualitative analysis skills such as conducting interviews, content analysis, and thematic analysis
- Independent, highly analytical, proactive and a team player
- Possess strong verbal, written communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to initiate collaborative research in a multidisciplinary team
- Proven track record with publications in reputable education, AI, or HCI journals or conference proceedings; preferably publications related to human-AI collaboration, game-based learning, problem-solving, learning analytics, or AI ethics
Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research
- Finetune LLMs, integrate them in existing systems, and apply them in data analyses
- Conduct user studies related to system development
- Contribute to ongoing research projects including data collection and data analysis
- Work closely with and provide guidance to part-time research assistants
- Publish high-impact conference and journal articles to disseminate the project's findings
- Any other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator
