Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $60,000.00 - $91,125.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

Key Responsibilities:

• Research Development: Design, develop, and implement clinical and epidemiologic research projects, including prospective randomized controlled trials, observational cohort studies and retrospective studies leveraging institutional data and large administrative databases

• Data Analysis & Methodology: Gain expertise in advanced statistical methods, epidemiology, and comparative effectiveness research in collaboration with biostatistics faculty.

• Manuscript & Grant Writing: Prepare and submit research manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals and develop proposals for research grants.

• Presentations & Academic Engagement: Present research findings at institutional meetings, national and international conferences, and contribute to journal clubs.

• Mentorship & Collaboration: Work closely with faculty mentors and engage with interdisciplinary research teams across the Pain Preventions Research Center, anesthesiology, pain management, biostatistics, and perioperative medicine.

• Regulatory Compliance & Ethics: Assist in Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, adhere to ethical research conduct, and complete required regulatory training modules.

Qualifications:

• Education: MD, DO, or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., anesthesiology, pain management, perioperative medicine, epidemiology, public health).

• Clinical Background: At least one year of clinical anesthesiology or pain management training is preferred.

• Research Experience: Prior research experience is desirable but not mandatory.

• Skills: Strong analytical skills, proficiency in statistical software (R, Stata, or SAS preferred), and excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Commitment: Full-time engagement with a strong motivation to pursue a career in academic anesthesiology or pain research.

Fellowship Structure:

The research fellowship consists of three core components:

1. Educational Component: Formal and informal training in research methodology, statistical analysis, and study design through collaboration with biostatisticians.

2. Research Component: Participation in multiple research projects, including prospective clinical trials, database analyses, and systematic reviews.

3. Presentation & Publication Component: Active involvement in manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and academic networking.

• Three letters of recommendation (including one from a current or previous training director).

• A personal statement (250 words) outlining motivation for pursuing a research fellowship.

• Three proposed research project ideas, including supporting literature.

Funding & Support:

The fellowship is funded through departmental resources, grants, and research endowments. Fellows may have access to career development funding and opportunities for travel support to present research at conferences.
