Job Description

[What the role is]

IMDA is spearheading Singapore’s drive to be a world-leading Digital Economy. Within IMDA, the BizTech Group (BTG) drives innovation and adoption across emerging technologies, including robotics and quantum communications, to advance Singapore’s digital future.

We are looking for a Research Engineer to join the Advanced Intelligence Software Systems (AISS) division within BTG. AISS focuses on research into frontier technologies and the development of advanced software systems, building technical capabilities to explore emerging technologies, develop and test solutions, and address new technology opportunities and risks.

In this role, you will conduct research and develop technical capabilities to strengthen the safety, security and trustworthiness of AI systems, including robotics and embodied AI systems.

If you are a research engineer passionate about investigating emerging technologies, uncovering new risks and developing technical approaches to strengthen trust in digital systems, we welcome you to join us in shaping Singapore’s digital future.

[What you will be working on]

  • Conduct hands-on research into the safety, security and trustworthiness of robotics and embodied AI systems, including identifying emerging risks, vulnerabilities and failure modes through experimentation.
  • Design and develop proofs of concept, experiments and technical tools to investigate risks in robotics and embodied AI, and demonstrate potential safeguards and mitigations.
  • Translate research findings into technical guidance, test methods and tools. Use these outputs to support technology development, and inform policy and regulatory work.
  • Support the cybersecurity governance of internal technology products. Work with product and engineering teams to identify security risks. Define and apply security requirements and safeguards throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct or support security assessments and threat modelling of internal products and systems, working with relevant cybersecurity specialists where deeper expertise is required.
  • Communicate research results through technical papers, articles, presentations, demonstrations, and international research forums.

[What we are looking for]

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline
  • Strong foundation in computer systems, with hands-on experience building, testing or analysing technical systems
  • Good understanding of cybersecurity principles, including areas such as identity and access management, threat modelling and secure software development
  • Able to conduct research on problems that do not have a well-defined solution. Able to develop hypotheses, design experiments, build prototypes, and analyse results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to analyse how systems operate, identify failures and vulnerabilities, and develop technical mitigations.
  • Able to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through technical reports, research papers, presentations and demonstrations.

Position will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
