A part of the Trust and Safety Product organization, the Research Data team is focused on enabling the work of independent researchers to understand the content and activities that take place on the TikTok platform. We lead initiatives to share data with the research community as part of an industry-leading transparency and compliance program. We are looking for an experienced Research Data Program Manager to expand our team's work delivering this mission with a focus on improving internal processes, developing insights, and expanding TikTok's offerings to the research community.
The Research Data Program Manager is a role focused on driving TikTok Trust & Safety's research, transparency, and regulatory compliance efforts. The Research Data Program Manager will take ownership of processes related to our Research Tools, including the application process, increasing uptake and understanding of the tools in the research community, and working with internal stakeholders to strengthen and improve TikTok's research data offerings. Additionally, the Research Data Program Manager will conduct analysis with and about our data tools in order to develop original insights for the Trust & Safety team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure TikTok is prepared to fulfill research data sharing regulatory requirements.
- Manage research data compliance process including application review.
- Work cross-functionally to evaluate and improve data sharing tools and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with external stakeholders to understand research requirements and propose responsive solutions.
- Contribute to advancing TikTok's Trust & Safety Research agenda.
- Help define TikTok's longer term data sharing and transparency roadmap and work with our partner teams to make product, technical, and privacy decisions.
Minimum Qualification(s):
- Strong understanding of research activities including research ethics and data privacy.
- Experience conducting quantitative or mixed methods original research in an academic, NGO, and/or tech setting.
- Master's degree with a strong research component; Ability to translate requirements between the academic, regulatory, and tech sectors.
- Experience building new processes and driving alignment across teams.
- Proactive and detail oriented; able to interpret and apply guidance from various disciplines to the task at hand.
- You thrive in fast-paced entrepreneurial environments and are able to deal with rapid changes, high ambiguity and imperfect status quo.
Preferred Qualification(s):
- PhD in a discipline that includes work with big data and/or social media data.
- 5+ years of experience in tech, academia, law, or a comparable discipline.
- Experience with presentations to stakeholders, leading trainings, and/or teaching.
- Keen interest in and familiarity with the global regulatory environment as it relates to researcher data access.
