Job Description

The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) is seeking a highly motivated and detail‑oriented individual to join the Research Data Management Unit as a Research Data Management Intern.

The primary purpose of this role is to support the creation, maintenance, updating, validation, and management of AHRI’s clinical and population research databases. The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring the highest standards of data quality, integrity, accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality across all research data.

Key responsibilities include assisting with routine data cleaning, quality assurance, and database management activities, as well as generating computerized reports, summaries, and data outputs to support research, surveillance, and operational reporting requirements.

of Duties:

  • Responsible for assisting with research data provision.
  • Responsible for assisting with quality control and assurance of research data.
  • Responsible for assisting with development of data collection systems and case report forms.
  • Responsible for assisting with creation of research reports and dashboards.
  • Responsible for assisting with data management training of research staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSc Hons in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information System, any database specialist degree or a closely related subject.

Minimum Experience

  • Basic understanding of data management concepts.
  • Previous exposure to data analysis, data cleaning or database systems through coursework, research projects or internships
  • Basic experience in data extraction and manipulation.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Query Language or any database query language
  • Basic knowledge of data science software such as R, Python or Julia.
  • Exposure to electronic data capture systems such as REDCap will be advantageous.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Accuracy and precision;
  • High computer literacy;
  • Report writing;
  • Must be able to work under pressure;
