The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Genetics, seeks a full-time Research Associate Professor. The appointee will contribute to the Center for Translational Neurogenetics and the Carvill Lab. The goals of the Center are to create a fully integrated, end-to-end precision-medicine framework that delivers personalized care for every individual with neurogenetic disease. This phased program will begin with a focused set of well-defined genetic etiologies in the rare epilepsies. We will build the scientific, clinical, and operational infrastructure required to design therapies tailored to each person’s unique genetic profile and define measurable outcomes for preclinical trials. The appointee will participate in, and oversee the development of, cellular models to understand the effects of genetic variation on protein function and outcomes on neurodevelopment and function, as well as the analysis of diverse multiomic data types (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics) towards identification of biomarkers of neurogenetic disease.
The appointee will also be involved in teaching and training of postdocs and students. Compensation is dependent on qualifications. This position is benefits eligible. The appointee will join a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation. Opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration are abundant, both within and outside the Biological Sciences Division. The Biological Sciences Division, other academic units of the University of Chicago, and UChicago Medicine, are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park. The primary appointment will be in the Department of Pediatrics although we anticipate that the appointee will develop close interactions with other departments, divisions, and institutes at the University of Chicago.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent.
We especially welcome applicants with a background in neurogenetics and the modeling of genetic variants in cellular models, particularly in a high-throughput manner, as well as expertise in genomic analyses.
