The Udekwu lab is funded by grants focused on various aspects of Bacillus species in environmentally relevant ecosystems. We study the physiology, ecology and evolution of microbes and microbial communities exposed to various stressors including but not limited to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, antimicrobials, and polyphenolic substances. This position supports the work we are doing relevant to microbial contribution to ecosystem recovery following stress, specifically Bacillus species in the recovery of ecosystems following drought and wildfire, as well as research into the impact of single cell heterogeneity on microbial hysteresis (memory of previous environmental exposures).
Position Overview
Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.
