The Research Associate will join an active health care delivery research program (led by Dr. Maggie Paul Bio) embedded within Mayo Clinic, one of the largest and most integrated academic health systems in the country. This is a transitional training role designed for early-career researchers pursuing independent academic careers in health services research, implementation science, or health policy.
What makes this position distinctive is the combination of rigorous research training with direct access to health system infrastructure. The Research Associate will partner with clinicians and operational leaders across Mayo Clinic to design and conduct evaluations of real-world innovations in care delivery and clinical practice, including digital health tools, new care delivery models, and physician workforce and leadership initiatives. The role sits within a team with a large portfolio of active projects and offers both structured mentorship and the autonomy to develop an independent line of scholarship.
Candidates with experience conducting research within learning health systems or health care delivery organizations are particularly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mixed-methods evaluations of health system innovations, with the flexibility to design studies that leverage the candidate’s methodological strengths, whether qualitative (e.g., interviews, focus groups), quantitative (e.g., survey design, EHR-based analyses), or integrated approaches.
Partner with clinicians, operational leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to develop research questions and evaluation designs that inform care delivery decisions.
Develop and submit manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national conferences.
Contribute to new research proposals and grant submissions, including opportunities to develop the candidate’s own funded research agenda.
Pursue independent scholarly interests aligned with the broader research program, building toward an independent research career.

Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career.
Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world.
We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.
