The Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is one of BMS’s differentiated research platforms delivering innovative therapies to patients. Our mission is to drive leadership in the use of cellular therapies to harness the power of the immune system in treating hematologic malignancies, solid cancers, and autoimmune disease. More specifically, our discovery and translational scientists are focused on developing next-generation, engineered cell-based therapies. The team is committed to discovering and developing transformative therapies that harness the power of the immune system to improve patient outcomes.
The Gene Engineering and Delivery team in the Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is seeking a highly motivated scientist to advance next-generation cancer immunotherapies through molecular design, viral vector engineering, and gene delivery innovation. This role will focus on designing, cloning, characterizing, and producing vector constructs that enable development of CAR T cell therapies. The ideal candidate brings strong molecular biology skills, hands-on cell culture experience, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset in a fast-paced research environment.
Key Deliverables
Execute molecular design and cloning of complex DNA constructs for cell therapy applications.
Demonstrate competency in mammalian cell culture, transfection, and transduction of primary T cells.
Execute molecular engineering designs and assays that support gene delivery and viral vector characterization.
Produce viral vectors to enable gene delivery workflows and experimental evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
In the role as a Research Associate within the Gene Engineering and Delivery team, the ideal candidate will:
Design and clone DNA constructs to support CAR T cell therapy development.
Culture mammalian cell lines for viral vector production, assessment, and gene delivery applications.
Set up and run molecular characterization and cellular assays to evaluate viral vector performance.
Execute viral vector production and characterization protocols.
Collaborate with team members to assess the technical feasibility of novel gene delivery methods.
Process and analyze data, review results, and communicate conclusions clearly.
Maintain accurate, detailed electronic laboratory notebook records and supporting documentation.
Summarize and present data in group meetings and written reports.
Work cross-functionally to execute and improve experiments and assay performance.
EXPERIENCE
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications
B.S./B.A. degree in a scientific discipline and 2+ years of hands-on experience in relevant field of research
Strong molecular biology skills, including molecular assay development, molecular design and cloning of complex DNA constructs, PCR, RT-PCR, and mRNA and DNA preparation.
Experience with tissue culture techniques, including transfection of mammalian cell lines and transduction of T cells.
Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to design and execute experiments with supervision
Outstanding written, visual, and oral communication skills

Compensation Overview:
Seattle - WA: $76,270 - $92,422
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.

*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
