Job Description
Research Associate: The Connell School of Nursing at Boston College seeks a detail-oriented, proactive Research Associate to support several research studies in various areas (heart failure, neonatal health, and aging).
The ideal candidate will demonstrate skills and experience at the intersection of project management, study support, and data management and analysis.
Program Management and Research Related Activities
- Research project tracking: Assist Principal Investigators (PI) in maintaining study timelines and outputs and deliverables associated with the study timeline; coordinate workflow between the PI and other team members (students, other researchers, other staff, external partners); organize agenda and meetings as needed by the PI.
- Study participant recruitment and monitoring: Work with each PI to implement and monitor recruitment of study participants; conduct initial eligibility screening for study participants; manage study participant enrollment; schedule participant interviews and/or focus groups; execute informed consent; track participants while in the study.
- Research Activities: Administer study protocols and participant interviews and focus groups as needed by the PI; work with the PI to submit and maintain IRB materials; Assist with the development and/or refinement of study manuals and materials, such as training manuals, standard operating procedures, and monitoring tools.
- Data Management: Work with PIs to assist in data collection for the study; work with CSON staff to implement data acquisition tools (Qualtrics and/or REDCAP); work with PI and study team to maintain study databases and implement data integration; assist with data cleaning and quality assurance, including processing and management of physiologic and other specialized research data using study-specific software programs, as applicable.
- Qualitative Data Analysis: Assist with qualitative data management and analysis (e.g., thematic analysis, content analysis, coding); knowledge of qualitative software tools such as NVivo, Dedoose, or ATLAS.ti is preferred; draft codebooks and synthesize qualitative findings into summary reports.
- Quantitative Data Analysis: Analyze study databases with tools such as Excel and Stata; assist with data preparation and analysis of quantitative, clinical, survey, physiologic, and other research data as appropriate to the study.
The successful applicant will work with a dynamic research team within the CSON. The successful candidate for this position will have previous technical experience conducting rigorous nursing and/or public health research, be knowledgeable about health care research, and have demonstrated experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods. In addition, prior experience working with novel datasets, working across research disciplines, and working with students would be required.
Salary Range: 60,000-$75,000
Competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
- Master's degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, or a related field
- 2-3 years of research experience
Other Qualifications:
- Prior experience in project management
- Demonstrated ability to conduct collaborative and methodologically rigorous research
- Experience in finding, processing, and analyzing large datasets
- Experience conducting interviews and/or focus groups
- Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills in English
- Ability to conduct literature searches and produce reviews
- Strong commitment to health equity and motivation for independent learning
- Experience with qualitative software such as NVivo, Dedoose, or ATLAS.ti
