FULL TIME RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

New York University Tandon School of Engineering

The Quantum Geometric Intelligence (QGI) Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Full time Research Associate to work with Prof. Nizar Touzi.

Responsibilities

Candidates will be responsible for developing a machine learning prototype model using Python and C++. Working under the supervision of Prof. Nizar Touzi the Research Associate will perform the following duties:

  • Review relevant scientific literature and identify machine learning methods and algorithms suitable for the project’s research objectives.
  • Translate research methods into functional Python and C++ code, including implementing model components, training procedures, and evaluation routines.
  • Prepare and process datasets for model development, including data cleaning, transformation, and the creation of appropriate training, validation, and testing sets.
  • Design and conduct computational experiments to train and validate the prototype, compare its performance against baseline methods, and analyze its accuracy, robustness, and computational efficiency.
  • Test, debug, and optimize the implementation to improve reliability, execution speed, and memory usage, and refine the prototype based on experimental findings.
  • Maintain organized, version-controlled source code and technical documentation describing the implementation, experimental procedures, results, and instructions for reproducing the work.
  • Participate in regular research meetings, present progress and findings, identify technical challenges, and coordinate next steps.
  • Contribute to technical reports, research manuscripts, presentations, and prototype demonstrations that communicate the project’s methods and results.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in machine learning research as exemplified by a strong publication record. Previous experience with Python and C++ is necessary.

Salary range

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $48,000 depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.

Expected start date and period of employment

Expected start date is: December 1, 2026 This position is expected to be for 8 months.

Qualifications

Candidates should have at least a MS in computer science, engineering, or a related field and 2 or more years of experience. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in machine learning research as exemplified by a strong publication record. Previous experience on C++ is necessary.
