FULL TIME RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
New York University Tandon School of Engineering

The Computer Science and Engineering Department at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Full-Time Research Associate to work with Professor Justin Cappos on t he POSE: Phase II: Building an Open-Source Ecosystem to Secure Software Bills of Materialsn (SSBOM) project.

Responsibilities

Candidates will be responsible for integrating functionality into the Witness framework to create in-toto attestations that accurately and efficiently capture network and operating system behavior. The candidate will also evaluate the effectiveness of created Software Bill of Materials (SBOMs) versus other techniques for software supply chain transparency and security. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in cybersecurity, systems, or software engineering, as exemplified by relevant research or project experience. Previous experience with software supply chain security, SBOMs, or attestation frameworks is desired.

Salary range

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the monthly salary for this position is $4,000, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Expected start date and period of employment

Expected start date is: May 26, 2026. This position is expected to be for approximately 3 months (through August 31, 2026). The position requires a work schedule of approximately 35 hours per week.

Qualifications

Candidates should have at least a MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Experience with systems programming, Linux environments, and security tooling is preferred. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
