Job:
Research AssociateWorking collaboratively with the Principal Investigator (PI), the research associate's primary responsibility is to design and carry out experiments to express and purify proteins, developing methods to maximize yield and activity of these proteins and to work with collaborators to obtain spectroscopic or crystallographic data on these biomolecules. There may be some supervision of undergraduate research students. This is a grant-funded position for one year with the possibility of renewal.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Design and implement methods to maximize the expression and activity of integral membrane metalloenzymes.
Carry out activity assays using a GC-MS.
Measure metal concentration using an ICP-MS
Work with collaborators to collect and interpret spectroscopic data.
Oversee and prepare stock solutions and reagents for the laboratory, assist with maintaining FPLC, regular calibration of pH meter, order supplies as needed and ensure that chemicals are entered into Chemtracker. Help manage LATCH and other CU EHS required policies.

Creative problem-solving abilities with a focus on achieving goals
Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team
Qualifications:
Ph.D degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry (or a masters degree in chemistry or biochemistry with 3 years of full time relevant research experience)
Experience with protein purification
Experience with molecular biology a plus
