Job Description

Infectious diseases caused by bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, including those that are antimicrobial resistant, constitute one of the biggest threats to human and planetary health. The Genomic Epidemiology group at the DTU National Food Institute at DTU is together with partners at University of Copenhagen, Statens Serum Institut and globally developing GPAP - a novel online free for use platform for analysis and sharing of genomic data for all pathogens infecting animals, humans and plants. To do this we shall offer a broad range of online bioinformatic pipelines for analyzing bacterial, parasitic, fungal and viral genomes and metagenomes. These pipelines must be based on curated databases of relevant, taxa, genes and mutations. Furthermore, they should be tested using microbial data prior to being launched.

We are seeking a candidate for a vacant position to provide research assistance in microbiology to maintain, develop and test our different databases and provide ad hoc assistance with microbial analyses. The tasks will include classical microbiology, curation of databases and classical bioinformatics methods.

The research assistant will be affiliated with the Genomic Epidemiology Research Group, which combines expertise in conventional and molecular microbiology with epidemiology and bioinformatics.

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your main responsibility will be to develop, maintain and test existing and new databases and tools and provide ad hoc assistance in microbial/bioinformatic investigations.

Skills:

  • Experience in microbial genomic and metagenomic analyses
  • Experience in laboratory-based microbiology
  • Experience with infectious diseases, including antimicrobial resistance

We offer great flexibility in the position.

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years. The position is part-time.
