An opening for a summer SIS research assistantship on south-south labor migration. The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible for regular meetings with the PI, conduct independent research, produce a literature review, offer independent analysis of findings, and create graphs, statistical output, charts, maps when requested to accompany the research. The position requires advanced research, writing, analytical and communication skills. The candidate should have demonstrated ability to take initiative, and ideally be interested in issues related to migration. An updated c.v., 2 writing samples of research projects and a cover letter highlighting background on migration – in terms of courses taken, internships and other related positions held should be highlighted.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct independent research.

  • Produce a literature review.

  • Offer independent analysis of findings.

  • Create graphs, statistical output, charts, maps when requested to accompany the research.

  • Other duties assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 5 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 - $18.50 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Take instructions well and work independently.

  • Conduct independent research from various sources including reports, newspaper articles, statistical datasets, social media accounts; scholarly publications.

  • Conduct archival research if necessary.

  • Ability to organize and synthesize findings.

  • Ability to produce robust literature review.

  • Develop graphs, maps, charts based on data acquired.

  • Be responsive and timely in communications with the PI.

  • Advanced editing skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ability to read Bangla and Arabic.

  • Conduct statistical analysis.

  • Produce independent analysis of findings.

  • Identity list of interviewees based on consultation with PI and set up interviews.

  • Interpret statistical and visual data, maps and graphs.

  • Interest in migration scholarship.

  • Familiarity with south-south migration dynamics.

  • Understanding of labor migration.
