The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.

Our Biological Sciences department is seeking a Research Assistant to play a pivotal role in bringing science to life for our students. You ensure our undergraduate labs run smoothly, from preparing chemical solutions and aliquoting materials to masterfully managing inventory and equipment. Your work directly shapes the hands-on learning experience of the next generation of scientists. Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for making solutions and prep materials for lab classes.
  • Maintains stock lab supplies in the UG labs in both MI and DH.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and glassware
  • Performs specific lab duties as required by the lab classes.
  • Prepares solutions and aliquots materials for lab classes
  • Ability to work with Instructors, staff Teaching Assistants and students.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in research, data collection, analysis, and record management are highly preferred.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
  • OSHA Hazardous Materials Safety Training
