Job Description
The Wistar Institute has an opening for a highly motivated Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher McGinnis as part of the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center (VIC) at The Wistar Institute.
The McGinnis lab is interested in how tumors interact with the immune system during metastasis and developing new single-cell genomics modalities to interrogate mechanisms of pro-metastatic immune remodeling. Focusing on breast cancer, osteosarcoma, and other tumor types with lung metastatic tropism, the McGinnis Lab aims to improve our basic understanding of how tumors spread and translate these insights into the development of anti-metastatic immunotherapies.
The responsibilities of successful candidates will involve:
• Processing tissues for flow cytometry and single-cell genomics assays
• Molecular cloning and tumor transplantation surgeries
• Nucleic acid analyses and next-generation sequencing library preparation
• High-throughput drug screen experiments using ex vivo tissue slice cultures
• Technical assistance to post-doctoral and pre-doctoral students with molecular and cellular biology experiments, and in animal studies.
A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential. Candidates will receive personalized training as required. Competitive applicants will have strong motivation to learn and to work in a collaborative environment. Experience in the following areas is preferred: cancer biology, immunology, molecular biology (PCR, DNA cloning, etc), cell culture, flow cytometry, mouse colony maintenance and surgical techniques, and/or next-generation sequencing.
The Wistar Institute is a world leader in early-stage discovery science in the areas of cancer, immunology, and infectious disease. Wistar is committed to accelerating research advances from bench to bedside through brilliant science and distinctive approaches to collaboration among scientific investigators and academic and industry partners.
