Job Description

The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) combines international research with interdisciplinary patient care. The UKSH is the only tertiary care provider and the largest employer in Schleswig-Holstein. The position is based at the Institute of Cardiogenetics at the UKSH. The institute brings together experts in life science, bioinformatics, and cardiovascular medicine to advance the understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying heart disease and to translate these insights into preclinical approaches.

Start in our team
We are looking for a Research Assistant / Laboratory Assistant who can start on September 1, 2026. The position isa fixed-term position ending on August 30, 2027.

Project Description
The successful candidate will test stent-coated devices ex vivo in minipig arteries. The project combines laboratory management and organizational work with experimental research using large animal models, molecular and cellular wet-lab techniques, and RNA sequencing alongside computational biology. The position offers the opportunity to work at the interface of experimental cardiovascular research.

Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory management and organizational work
  • Conduct ex vivo experimental research using large animal models (primarily mouse and minipig models)
  • Perform molecular and cellular biology experiments
  • Work within research and diagnostic laboratory environments and collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team
  • Contribute to data analysis and scientific documentation

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in molecular life sciences or a related discipline (e.g., Biology, Pharmacy, Veterinary Sciences, Biomedicine)
  • Strong experience with laboratory techniques in molecular and / or cellular biology, including experience working with animal models and expertise in organ dissection
  • trong background in immunofluorescent staining for imaging vascular structures
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Experience and/or interest in bioinformatics or computational biology, good written and spoken English, and German language skills as an advantage
