Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and skilled research assistant to join our research activities in the field of Interface Management in the Section of Engineering Design and Manufacturing Systems at DTU Construct. In the position you will investigate how interface management and systems engineering can reduce delays, integration problems and errors that arise when interfaces between subsystems are poorly understood, particularly in projects delivered across multiple companies and suppliers.

Responsibilities and qualifications

The research assistant will conduct research within the section of Engineering Design and Manufacturing systems at the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Focus will be within the area of modular product and Manufacturing development. The research group focus on methods and principles which can reduce time to market for new products and increase innovation. A core area in modular design is specification of key interfaces.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Conduct state of the art literature study on interface definitions and modelling across different technology areas, e.g. software, electronics and mechanics
  • Evaluate how these interfaces can be managed by PLM and CAD tools
  • Document state of the literature study
  • Publish the research in a Web of Science based journal paper

You should have experience with:

  • Modelling of mechanical, electrical and software solutions
  • Understanding of Modularization theory and methods
  • Analysis and Synthesis in Engineering Design
  • Understanding of interplay between Design and Manufacturing

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is a full-time position and the period of employment is 3 months. Expected start date is 15 September 2026 (or according to mutual agreement).
