DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

Research Assistant (25260284)

We are looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Physics.

Responsibilities:

  • Brain Organoid Culture and Maintenance Cultivate, maintain, and characterise brain organoids derived from stem cells, ensuring optimal growth conditions and experimental reproducibility;
  • Mouse Model Experiments Assist in conducting in vivo experiments using mouse models, including handling, behavioral testing, and tissue collection while adhering to ethical guidelines;
  • Molecular and Cellular Techniques Perform techniques such as immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and DNA methylation sequencing to analyse neural tissues and organoids;
  • Data Collection and Analysis Record experimental data, perform quantitative and qualitative analyses, and maintain accurate laboratory records;
  • Lab Management Assist in maintaining lab equipment, preparing reagents, and ensuring compliance with safety and ethical regulations; and
  • Collaboration and Reporting Work closely with principal investigators, postdocs, and other team members, contributing to experimental design, data interpretation, and preparation of reports or publications.

Requirements:

  • Education A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field;
  • Experience
    • Prior experience in a wet lab setting, preferably with cell culture or animal models;
    • Familiarity with neuroscience research techniques (e.g., brain organoid culture, mouse handling, or molecular biology methods) is highly desirable;
  • Skills
    • Proficiency in standard laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, microscopy, PCR);
    • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
    • Basic knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism) is a plus;
    • English proficiency (spoken and written) is a must;
  • Other Requirements
    • Self-motivated, well-organised and meticulous; and
    • Willing to pursue PhD study is a plus.
