Hiring Unit:

Centre for Genomics and Policy, Department of Human Genetics

The incumbent will support interdisciplinary research activities related to genomics, precision medicine, and open science by conducting legal, ethical, and policy analyses.

This is an in-person position based at the Centre of Genomics and Policy.

Contract Period: June 22, 2026, to June 21, 2027.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting literature reviews of legal, social and policy aspects of genomic research, precision medicine and open science (data sharing).

  • Analyze and compare provincial, national and international legal documents on the above-mentioned topic.

  • Assist in the development and drafting of policy for relevant stakeholders (public, professionals, health institutions, researchers, research ethics boards, etc.).

  • Assist in the researching, drafting, copy-editing and source-checking of submissions to peer reviewed law, bioethics and scientific journals.

  • Attending project meetings.

  • Supporting teaching activities, when appropriate.

  • Collaborating with the team at the Centre of Genomics and Policy.

  • Performing any other activity assigned by the research supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Possesses subject matter expertise acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in law.

  • Holds a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience to the research project or academic research experience may be deemed equivalent.

  • Demonstrated interest in health care law and policy, health research regulation, regulation of health professionals, emerging technologies and/or privacy law;

  • Familiarity with comparative law methodologies.

  • Experience with copy editing, reference formatting, and legal source checking is an asset.

  • Background in biology, informatics fields, and/or bioethics is an asset

  • Works well in a team

  • Meticulous

  • Fluent in English and working knowledge of French

Language requirement:

  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.

  • The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

This position is covered by the Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) collective agreement.
