This Part-Time Research Assistant 1 position is based in Prof. Jeremy Cooperstock’s research lab in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The Research Assistantassiststhe research team in conducting research projects for the IMAGE project(https://image.a11y.mcgill.ca) in McGill’s Shared Reality Lab and,asrequired,is responsible forthe functional supervision of Undergraduate/Graduate Research Assistants.
Under the supervision of the Research Supervisor, conducts research coordination and project management activities using established protocols, processes, and procedures to ensure successful execution of IMAGE researchobjectives
Key Deliverables Under Current Funding
Conduct and support research-driven development, deployment, and long-term sustainability of the IMAGE platform for integration with the Monarch Android pin array tablet in collaboration with HumanWare, including external research collaborations, outreach, and funding initiatives.
Responsibilities
Conduct and support research activities to drive project/research outcomes in alignment with defined timelines and deliverables.
Plan and prepare documentation related to research activities, project tracking, and reporting
Carry out research support activities including planning, progress tracking, and issue resolution
Support team members running user studies and writing academic publications
Facilitate meetings, communications, and reporting with partners and funding agencies
Compile, analyze, and interpret project data including progress, resource use, and outcomes
Implement and evaluate improvements to research workflows and operational processes
Contribute to dissemination of results, including research reports and grant-related materials
Identifyrisks and support mitigation strategies to ensure successful research outcomes
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree inscience ora related field.
2+ years ofrelated experience
Ability to inspire and motivate IMAGE team members to move IMAGE forward, by defining and owning a clear path to project success
Organized and detail-oriented
Bias toward action, with examples of successfully completed projects
Proactive and self-starting, able to move forward with limited oversight
Clear written and oral communication
Sixth sense for upcoming problems before they blow up
Bonus: strong technical background, toassistin development and code review
Bonus: grant-writing experience
Bonus: Project management experience including agile techniques (sprints, project tracking boards, etc.) is considered an asset
General Requirements
Quebec resident (mandatory), able to work on-site at McGill downtown Montreal campus at least one day/week
Fluent English
Bonus: Experience writing conference and journal papers and presenting results in academic venues
Bonus: French (spoken and/or written)
Bonus: Experience working with the blind/low vision community
