Under the supervision of Professor Ferri Hassani, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant 1 to support ongoing research in mine backfill technologies, including paste, frozen, and foam fill systems. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental research involving geomaterials and microwave applications, supporting both laboratory work and reporting for academic and industry audiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The tasks of this position include but are not limited to th e following:
Conducts research activities related to mine backfill and geomaterials using established protocols, processes, and procedures under the supervision of the Research Supervisor
Executes experiments including sample preparation, laboratory testing (physical and mechanical), data collection, and test administration under varying environmental conditions
Implements recommended improvements to experimental methods and research procedures, including techniques involving microwave applications in geomaterials
Analyzes and interprets experimental data and disseminates results through technical reports, industrial documentation, and scientific contributions
Provide technical guidance and training to student research assistants or graduate students in laboratory procedures and experimental tasks
Performs various administrative tasks related to the research project, including documentation, data organization, and report preparation
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated at least two (2) years of research experience conducting laboratory-based research related to mine backfill and geomaterials
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively in an international, safety‑sensitive laboratory environment.
Excellent written communication skills for technical writing and scientific reporting
