Job Description

GE Vernova is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Engineer / Analyst with strong domain expertise in Generative AI, Digital Technologies, and Robotics (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Architectures, Autonomous Systems, Industrial Automation, Robotics platforms, etc.) to join our IP team.

As Research Analyst (Technology / IP Development & Commercialization), you will search for and analyze technology, intellectual property, and business information in support of technology development and/or Intellectual Property commercialization in the domain of Generative AI, digital platforms, and robotics-enabled systems.

In addition to core IP analytics, the role is expected to drive productivity improvements by leveraging coding and automation tools to streamline repetitive analytics workflows and enhance analytical depth.

1. Analytics (Patent and Non-Patent Literature):

  • Analyze and evaluate technical aspects of patent applications and existing patents in Generative AI, software systems, industrial digital platforms, robotics control systems, and AI-enabled automation.
  • Conduct searches on patent and open literature databases for prior art, patentability, infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate analyses in AI, robotics, and digital domains.
  • Develop patent landscapes covering LLM architectures, prompt engineering systems, AI-assisted design tools, robotic perception systems, motion planning algorithms, autonomous navigation, edge AI, and industrial automation platforms.
  • Monitor competitor filings and emerging technology trends in industrial AI, robotics integration, and intelligent automation ecosystems.
  • Provide actionable insights based on patent trends, white spaces, emerging risks, and AI–robotics convergence opportunities.
  • Design and implement automation scripts, data processing workflows, and AI-assisted tools (e.g., Python-based analytics, LLM-assisted categorization, data scraping, dashboarding) to improve efficiency and scalability of IP analytics processes.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to reduce manual, repetitive analysis through structured automation and digital tooling.

2. IP Strategy and Commercialization:

  • Work closely with GE Vernova research technologists, AI scientists, robotics engineers, and licensing commercial leaders to analyze value propositions of AI-enabled and robotics-driven technologies.
  • Support structured invention harvesting and IP development discussions with robotics and digital teams.
  • Evaluate market needs in intelligent automation and digital ecosystems, and propose business and financial scenarios for monetization of GE’s AI, robotics, and digital IP assets.
  • Support portfolio analytics, valuation modeling, and data-driven identification of monetization opportunities.

3. Collaboration with Global Teams:

  • Work in collaboration with patent attorneys, AI researchers, robotics engineers, controls specialists, licensing professionals, and business development teams.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary projects spanning AI, robotics, controls, automation, and energy transition technologies.
  • Contribute to development of internal digital tools and AI-enabled systems for IP analytics and decision support.

4. Additional Skill Sets:

  • Strong working knowledge of Python (preferred), including data manipulation libraries (e.g., pandas), basic scripting, and automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Familiarity with APIs, data extraction, dashboarding tools, or LLM integration for workflow enhancement.
  • Experience building small internal tools, scripts, or analytical dashboards to improve efficiency is highly desirable.
  • Experience using IP analytics platforms (e.g., PatSnap, Orbit, Derwent, etc.) would be beneficial.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence / Robotics / Electrical & Controls / Software Engineering / related fields.
  • Strong understanding of Generative AI architectures, AI-enabled workflows, digital systems, and/or robotics systems including perception, planning, and control.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in AI/ML development, robotics R&D, software systems engineering, or technology/IP analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to use coding or scripting to automate analysis workflows and improve productivity.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with ability to build logical frameworks and derive structured conclusions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative environments.
  • Strong commitment to deadlines and execution excellence.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience applying LLMs or AI tools to enhance research productivity or knowledge workflows.
  • Experience in building lightweight internal analytics tools or dashboards.
  • Prior exposure to technology commercialization or IP portfolio analytics.
  • Curiosity toward leveraging AI to transform traditional IP analytics processes.
