Job Description

Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP is a nationally recognized Am Law 200 law firm with over 500 attorneys servicing clients in 40 offices and 22 states seeking a Reporting and Analytics Developer to join our team in our Atlanta office. The Reporting & Analytics Developer supports the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of reporting, warehousing, and other data solutions within the firm’s financial systems environment. This role combines deep technical expertise with business acumen to keep solutions reliable, accurate, and accountable. The ideal candidate intuitively understands how business processes, systems and applications, and data interact, and can apply that knowledge to their work. This is not an accounting, financial analysis, or system administration role. This is a heavily technical role focused on developing the data warehousing and reporting environment.

The ideal candidate approaches problems computationally, breaking complex processes into inputs, outputs, rules, and dependencies. They form hypotheses based on available data, test their assumptions, consider edge cases and downstream effects, and ask focused questions when additional context is needed. When a result is incorrect, they want to understand why it occurred rather than simply correcting the visible symptom.

The following set of success factors describes the characteristics of those who are successful in our Firm:

  • Helpful, Congenial, Personable, Positive
  • Unpretentious, Approachable, Respectful, Team Oriented
  • Accountable, Takes Ownership, Corrects Mistakes
  • Organized, Timely, Confidential, Responsive (within 24 hours)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to gather requirements, define success criteria and translate business needs into technical and analytical solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data models, Power BI dashboards, SSRS/PBIRS reporting and performance metrics that support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Write and troubleshoot SQL queries to retrieve, validate, reconcile and mitigate data discrepancies using root-cause analysis and sustainable corrective solutions.
  • Support data conversion and migration activities, potentially including customizations, workflows and automations.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation, data definitions, business rules and reporting standards to support data governance and cross-report consistency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics or another related discipline, required
  • Strong proficiency in writing and debugging SQL statements
  • Experience with reporting, modeling or other BI technologies, including Power BI, Power Query (M) or DAX.
  • Programming experience with a C-based language within an enterprise environment, C# preferred.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, data modeling and information management principles.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and communicate progress, questions, risks, and blocks clearly and promptly.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and exercise discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in software development, application/database support or a related technical role.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Integration/Analytics/Reporting Services (SSIS/SSAS/SSRS) preferred.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs including Microsoft Graph or Salesforce preferred.
  • Experience with Aderant, Elite, Litify, Salesforce or another financial, case, or practice management system preferred.
  • Experience in a law firm, professional services or other data-sensitive environment preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric for data warehouses and/or lakehouses preferred.
  • Experience with a version-control platform, like Git preferred.
  • Experience with implementing monitoring and alerts for data integrations for proactive responses preferred.

Growth & Development

This role provides the opportunity to contribute to a major financial systems implementation while developing experience across enterprise applications, databases, reporting platforms, and various integration, automation, and analytical solutions. Looking forward, the individual in this role will:

  • Develop a working understanding of the firm’s primary financial applications, data structures, reporting, and integration environments
  • Complete defined development and implementation assignments with appropriate testing, validation, error handling, documentation, and monitoring
  • Investigate increasingly complex issues using code, data, logs, and team member support
  • Independently support routine reporting and troubleshooting requests as familiarity with the system grows
  • Establish productive working relationships with immediate colleagues, stakeholders, and end users
  • Identify data quality concerns, edge cases, and recurring issues before they result in broader production problems
