Job Description

Location: Calvary Care Center - LA Status: Non - Exempt, Full Time

To support Mortuary by correctly and respectfully remove and transport deceased loved ones.
Under the general supervision of Care Center Supervisor, the Removal Technician is responsible for the care, removal and transport of human remains in accordance with all state, local and company policies and procedures. In addition to removal duties, this position may perform various services and client relations activities, while establishing and maintaining effective communication of efforts with mortuary office administrative staff, parish priests and mortuary officials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

  • Performs removals of deceased from hospital, nursing home or residence to transport to Care Center, mortuary or funeral home.
  • May perform removals from prep rooms or embalming facilities as well.
  • Maintains and ensures removal vehicle is clean inside and out and is properly maintained.
  • Maintains adequate supply of personal protective equipment in removal vehicles.
  • Performs duties with strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Performs a variety of tasks during funerals and visitations to assist funeral directors and ensures that services run smoothly as planned.
  • Maintains a friendly attitude while offering assistance and guidance to all persons entering the location.
  • Assists Care Center staff with base Care Center needs of cleaning, organization, stocking supplies and dressing of decedents as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Active members of a Roman Catholic faith community
  • High School Diploma required (Bachelor's Degree preferred)
  • Minimum 6 month's work experience
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Certification/Licenses

  • Valid state-issued driver's license with clean driving record

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Understanding of Christian Burial in the Catholic Church

Skills in:

  • Customer Service Skills: responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, co-workers or members of the business community
  • Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and diplomacy

Ability to:

  • Ability to follow multiple pending requests through to completion
  • Ability to organize and coordinate projects
  • Ability to concentrate and complete moderately complex forms
  • Work independently with initiative and little supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Must be able to read and interpret Mortuary policies, procedures, contracts and customer files such as interment right records
  • Effectively present information to patron family members, co-workers and management
  • Ability to express or exchange information by means of the spoken word
  • Able to work on a rotating, on-call schedule

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds or more.
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
