Schedule: Monday - Friday, from 8 A.M to 5 P.M, CST.
Our Client provides next-generation self-storage facilities and apartment communities across the Midwestern United States. They are dedicated to delivering clean, secure, and affordable solutions to their customers through a portfolio of over 30 entities. As a growing organization, they are focused on building a proactive, data-driven finance team committed to scaling operations through technology and continuous improvement.
The Role
Our Client is seeking a Staff Accountant to serve as a key member of their Finance team. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this individual will own and execute day-to-day accounting operations across a diverse portfolio of storage and apartment entities. This is a high-impact role requiring significant ownership; the successful candidate will not only maintain current and accurate financial statements but will actively leverage technology and AI tools to build a best-in-class finance function.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue & Accounts Receivable Management
Reconciles revenue data recorded in property management systems to ensure accurate monthly reporting across all portfolios.
Performs monthly bank reconciliations for all entities and verifies that revenue is correctly posted in the ERP.
Investigates and resolves discrepancies between property management systems, the ERP, and bank records.
Accounts Payable & Compliance
Processes and reviews bills across 30+ entities, ensuring proper coding, completeness, and timely approval.
Monitors and tracks autopay obligations and performs monthly credit card reconciliations for all company cards.
Supports the annual 1099 filing process and maintains diligent tracking of vendor W-9s, Certificates of Insurance, and Lien Waivers.
Month-End Close & Process Optimization
Executes assigned month-end close tasks with high accuracy to support the production of reliable financial statements.
Prepares reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts and assists in compiling reports for internal stakeholders and investors.
Proactively identifies and proposes improvements to accounting processes, including opportunities for automation and system integration.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally within a multi-entity or real estate environment.
Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with an ERP (DualEntry is a plus) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with property management systems (e.g., Cubby, TenantCloud) and spend management platforms (e.g., Ramp) is highly preferred.
Innovation Mindset: A genuine interest in AI tools and workflow automation to improve financial accuracy and efficiency.
Communication: Clear, collaborative communication skills for working within a small, tight-knit team.
