Job Description

Drive the future of carbon farming through cutting-edge remote sensing and geospatial science. Join a purpose-led team advancing high-integrity climate solutions across Australia’s land sector.

The Opportunity

This is a full-time 12-month fixed-term opportunity and can be based in Sydney or remote.

We’re looking for a highly analytical and technically skilled Remote Sensing Scientist with strong experience in geospatial data and applied remote sensing workflows. You’ll apply advanced remote sensing science to support the measurement, monitoring, and compliance of carbon farming projects, while developing scalable, robust, and auditable geospatial products and tools.

About the Role

  • Conduct research and development to advance remote sensing applications for forests and structurally diverse vegetation
  • Process and analyse large, complex datasets from satellite, aerial, UAV, and LiDAR sources to assess vegetation condition and forest structure
  • Develop and maintain remote sensing tools, analytical workflows, and machine learning outputs for carbon project mapping and monitoring
  • Integrate field-based data with remote sensing products for validation, modelling, and co-registration
  • Apply spatial statistics, sampling strategies, and validation techniques to ensure scientific rigour
  • Support carbon project compliance through delivery of accurate, defensible geospatial products
  • Collaborate with analysts and compliance teams to embed remote sensing outputs into operational processes
  • Contribute to QA/QC processes and continuous improvement of geospatial methods and workflows
  • Manage data acquisition, processing, and documentation, ensuring workflows are transparent and auditable
  • Provide specialist technical advice and communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in forestry, ecology, engineering, environmental science, geospatial science, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience applying multispectral, radar, and/or LiDAR remote sensing techniques for vegetation or forest analysis
  • Proven capability designing and maintaining complex remote sensing workflows in applied or operational environments
  • Strong experience analysing large geospatial datasets (raster, vector, LiDAR)
  • Experience integrating field and remotely sensed data, including validation and error assessment
  • Applied experience with machine learning in geospatial or remote sensing workflows
  • Experience working with large datasets in high-performance or distributed computing environments
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g. Git) and maintaining shared codebases
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities

Desirable:

  • Experience working in carbon markets, natural resource management, or compliance-focused environments
  • Experience supporting audit-ready or defensible analytical outputs
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
