We are seeking a motivated intern to support SGT’s Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) programs. This role provides hands-on experience with electrical distribution systems, sensor-based electronics, and engineering development activities. The intern will work closely with R&D laboratories to prototype circuits, integrate sensors, gather technical data, and assist in the execution of engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in executing technical programs involving electrical distribution, protection, and control for low to medium voltage systems.
  • Design and build analog and digital circuits for sensor integration.
  • Integrate sensors with microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino) for data acquisition and testing.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze sensor data to support engineering development and system understanding.
  • Develop basic signal conditioning systems such as filtering, amplification, and noise reduction.
  • Prototype and test sensor based devices to ensure accuracy, reliability, and functionality.
  • Build housings, fixtures, and component structures using CAD tools and rapid prototyping methods (e.g., 3D printing).
  • Support RDT&E growth by collaborating with R&D laboratories on experiments, documentation, and iterative testing.
  • Participate in requirement gathering discussions with technical leads and assist in proposing preliminary design concepts.
  • Conduct basic research on market trends, emerging technologies, and competitor capabilities relevant to SGT programs.
  • Assist with internal presentations, demonstrations, and technology reviews.
  • Help prepare materials for industry events, technical conferences, and internal publications.
  • Support brainstorming sessions related to innovative concepts and potential patentable ideas.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Physics, or related technical field.
  • Programming Skills in Python, Solid Modeling and/or Circuit Design
  • Hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design and sensor integration
  • Interest in electrical systems, sensors, embedded electronics, and applied engineering research.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and cloud-based tools such as SharePoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, manage multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn about federal engineering programs and multidisciplinary technical challenges.

Security Clearance:

  • Candidate must be a United States Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance

You’ll Benefit From

The hourly pay range for this position $22.00 - $30.00 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
