Position Summary
The Relief Host /Server is responsible for providing courteous, prompt, and professional dining service to residents and guests while supporting daily dining room operations. This flexible role serves as a Dining Server during regular shifts and assumes Shift Lead responsibilities when assigned. This position helps ensure excellent customer service, smooth meal service, staff support, and compliance with food safety and sanitation standards in the Assisted Living dining environment. This role requires strong communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dining Server Responsibilities
When scheduled as a server, the employee will:
- Provide full-service dining during meal periods, including greeting residents and guests, offering beverages, taking menu orders, communicating with kitchen staff, delivering meals, and responding promptly to resident needs.
- Set, clear, sanitize, and reset dining room tables according to department standards.
- Prepare and stock service stations, condiments, beverages, and accompaniments before meal service.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dining environment.
- Complete assigned side work, dishwashing, and cleaning duties.
- Properly handle, label, date, and store food items.
- Accurately document food and equipment temperatures as required.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, infection control, and universal precaution procedures.
- Maintain professional appearance and comply with dress code requirements.
- Attend required training sessions and department meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Shift Lead Responsibilities
When assigned as Shift Lead, the employee will:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for dining room operations during the assigned shift.
- Assist with opening and closing dining room procedures.
- Coordinate server assignments and ensure adequate dining room coverage.
- Monitor service flow and provide direction to dining staff to ensure timely and efficient meal service.
- Support and mentor new employees, providing coaching and guidance regarding service standards and departmental procedures.
- Assist in resolving resident, guest, and staff concerns in a professional manner and refer issues to management when necessary.
- Ensure dining rooms, service stations, and work areas meet cleanliness and safety standards throughout the shift.
- Verify completion of side work, cleaning tasks, and shift responsibilities.
- Communicate operational needs, staffing concerns, resident requests, and service issues to management.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new dining service employees as assigned.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to customer service standards.
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating exceptional hospitality and compliance with all department policies and procedures.
- Assist management with special events, resident functions, and service projects as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous server, hospitality, senior living, or customer service experience preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively lead and support coworkers while maintaining a positive work environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry items necessary to perform job duties.
